Soundman
Made from scrap speakers saved from certain doom, and lasercut ply for the head. This project is very much a work in progress.
Currently I am working on a Two Wheel Self Balancing prototype platform (see here).
Once the prototype is functional, I will transplant the functionality to Soundman, replacing his feet with hover board wheel motors.
With mobility will come a huge avenue of possible upgrade projects, including object avoidance and tracking to facilitate roaming the wider world.
The Build
Collecting enough speakers and of the correct size was the first challenge. This was surprisingly easy as I had naturally started hoarding old speakers that would "come in handy at some point".
Pictured (right) is the initial layout for a sense of scale and proportion.
I then embarked on a very 'ad-hoc' build of the legs, using dead reconing to cut and bend the leg material and to weld on the attachment plates.
Next was the head. This was to be a laser cut plywood construction.
Pictured left is the design in progress, I still have the files, but do not have the right version of the software I used to fish out a better image.
From a pile of parts, the head starts to take shape. I used masking tape to temporarily hold the parts in place, supported with super glues to allow me to remove the tape, allowing me to fix with repoxy resin and fill the joins resultant of the square cut laser edge.
The arms were also made and added (using the same 'ad-hoc' process).
